Hokkaido University’s Graduate School of Life Science is recruiting students for October 2027 entry with potential nomination under the MEXT IGP Special Quota. The Sapporo-based international programme uses English as its main language and covers transdisciplinary life science, biosystems science and soft matter. It is designed for international candidates ready to join a laboratory and build a master’s or doctoral research project. The process starts by identifying a suitable laboratory and contacting its director directly with the IGP first-step form. The laboratory assesses fit before the full application and internal nomination are prepared. Typical documents include the MEXT form, study and research plan, recommendation, passport, transcripts, graduation evidence, proof of academic excellence and English proficiency. MEXT funding normally includes tuition exemption, a monthly allowance and travel under the applicable rules. Prospective supervisors should be contacted by 10 November 2026, and much earlier action is strongly recommended.
