UNESCO has opened a pilot call under its Science for Crisis Response and Crisis Resolution programme. Six institutional grants of up to 2,000 US dollars each will help African researchers resume or complete a clearly defined part of natural sciences research interrupted by armed conflict or a natural or biological hazard. Applicants must be African nationals affiliated with a recognised university or research institute in Africa and hold at least a master’s degree or equivalent qualification. The application must explain an interruption within the last three years, or significant continuing effects, and propose activities deliverable within six months. Eligible spending includes targeted consumables, local fieldwork, data activities and essential short-term equipment access. Salaries, personal allowances, international relocation and major equipment are excluded. A signed institutional support letter is required, and the same costs cannot receive duplicate funding. Applications may be prepared in French or English and must arrive by 23:59 Paris time on 15 November 2026.
