Harvard’s Middle East Initiative welcomes junior and mid-career scholars and practitioners for ten months of policy-oriented research. Projects should address the United Arab Emirates, the Gulf or the wider Arab world, including governance, economic diversification, human capital or public policy delivery. All nationalities may apply, with particular interest in regional specialists who intend to return and contribute to their communities. Residence in Cambridge is required, and fellows normally need leave from their primary employer. Advertised stipends vary by professional and degree status; partially funded and non-stipendiary appointments are also available. Applicants should explain their funding needs rather than assume full financial support. Prepare a three-to-five-page proposal identifying two or three relevant Harvard faculty members, a CV, an English writing sample and three references. Applications close on December 1, 2026, with recommendations due December 15. The academic-year appointment runs from September 1 to June 30 and should produce a substantive research output.
