International Journalists’ Programmes is offering the Horst Köhler bursary for journalists from Southern Africa and Kenya to work in Germany. Up to five participants from the region can spend two months in a host newsroom while researching stories for their home media. The exchange begins with an introductory conference in Berlin. The published July and August 2027 placement dates remain subject to confirmation. Applicants must be aged twenty-five to forty, come from one of the SADC countries explicitly listed in the call or Kenya, and work regularly for a media organisation. Strong English is required; German is an advantage but not mandatory. The fixed bursary is EUR 3,500, not US dollars. Additional expenses remain the fellow’s responsibility, and the host newsroom does not provide further pay. Email a CV, an 800-word essay, two work samples and a reference guaranteeing leave by 20 January 2027. Participants must later submit an experience report and copies of their published work.
