Description

McGill University, one of Canada’s most prestigious universities, is welcoming the new cohort of the Mastercard Foundation Scholars Program: a full-tuition master’s scholarship for young African leaders who are committed to their communities and face financial barriers. The scholarship covers the entire program: tuition, housing, a regular stipend, immigration assistance, and academic support : allowing students to devote themselves entirely to their studies. Thirteen master’s programs are eligible, primarily in the areas of food systems, health, and public policy: public health, public policy, biotechnology, animal sciences, and biological engineering, among others. The call for applications is open to citizens of African countries residing in Africa, aged 35 or younger, who hold a relevant bachelor’s degree and have never earned a master’s degree. The program gives special consideration to women, forcibly displaced persons, and people with disabilities. A strong track record of community engagement is a key selection criterion. The timeline is tight and specific: participation in a virtual information session is mandatory to receive the application link : registration for these sessions is open now : and the official application form must be submitted between August 3 (9 a.m. Eastern Time) and August 21, 2026 (4 p.m.). Shortlisted candidates are then exempt from the McGill application fee. For a young African professional seeking a top-tier North American master’s degree but lacking the financial means, this is one of the most comprehensive pathways available.
