This programme connects early-career scientists from least developed countries with eligible laboratories in the Italian region of Friuli Venezia Giulia. The three-month visit supports collaborative research or scientific training linked to sustainable development. Applicants must arrange the collaboration before applying. A meaningful host invitation should describe the research, dates and working conditions already discussed with the supervisor, rather than simply stating a general willingness to host a visitor. Profile: Nationality of a UN-listed least developed country and a research position in an LDC; not every African country qualifies. MSc or higher degree and no more than 40 years of age on 31 December of the application year. Research within an eligible host laboratory’s listed fields and linked to the Sustainable Development Goals. Support: Travel and subsistence costs during the Italian visit are covered. This is a research-visit award, not funding for an entire degree. Application: Identify a supervisor at an institution and in a field listed by TWAS. Agree on the research and secure the host invitation before completing the English application. The original 31 October deadline has officially been extended to 16 November 2026.
